To prevent this, tundish lower nozzles are designed to maintain the temperature of the molten steel as it flows from the tundish to the mold.

One way this is achieved is by designing the nozzle with a specific length and diameter to optimize the flow of the molten steel. The length of the nozzle can be adjusted to provide sufficient residence time for the steel in the nozzle, allowing it to be heated by the refractory material and maintain its temperature as it flows towards the mold.
